Chocolate, Holidays

Milk Hot Chocolate on a Stick

I promised I would adapt (adapt being a strong word) this for milk hot chocolate, and I did!

It’s getting chillier around here. Well, as chilly as it can get in Kentucky in November. But I am already in the holiday spirit of things.

milk hot chocolate 2It’s holiday shopping season, and while I will never be brave enough to venture out on Black Friday, I do advocate getting your gift ideas together early. So let this help you!

Hot chocolates on sticks have become my new favorite holiday gift. I use them as stocking stuffers (head’s up! St. Nick’s day is coming) and as part of treat baskets for co-workers.

Again, I can’t get over how cute they look! This time around, I topped the hot chocolates with mini marshmallows. I saw it in an image somewhere and fell in love with how it looked.

It did have an extra advantage, though. I was making both dark and milk chocolates at the same time, and at some points, in the same tins! The mini marshmallows helped me keep track of which flavors were which since the cocoa is sprinkled on post-chill. Of course, you can decorate these however you want!

Ingredients:

1 lb. milk chocolate, broken into chunks

1/4 cup powdered sugar

1/2 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips

12 mini cupcake wrappers

12 sticks or wooden spoons

Mini marshmallows for topping

Directions:

Place chunks of milk chocolate and chocolate chips in a microwave safe containers and heat for 30 second intervals, stopping to stir the chocolate between each round.

When the chocolate is fully melted and smooth, sift the powder sugar into the chocolate.

Spoon between 2-3 oz of chocolate into mini cupcake wrappers.* Immediately insert wooden spoons or sticks into the chocolate and add four mini marshmallows per cup. Let sit for a minute before placing in the fridge to chill for five minutes.

Remove hot chocolates from fridge and allow to fully set (about 30 minutes, depending on the temperature of the room). Peel cupcake wrappers off the hot chocolates.

To serve, heat 8 oz of milk in a microwave safe mug and stir in the hot chocolate. Super easy, huh?

*Not all mini cupcake tins are 3 oz, and will therefore have a higher yield of this recipe. Simply reduce to 6 oz of milk and bask in the joy of having so many hot chocolate sticks!

Delicious dealings, friends!
