How-To: Tree Stump & Gnome Cake

It was my sister’s 25th birthday the other day, and I decided to make her a very special cake this year. She loves fairy tales, always has, but especially gnomes. I guess she gets a kick out of their personalities. There’s so much sass crammed into those tiny creatures!

I’ve been wanting to do a stump cake for a while. They went viral not too long ago as part of a lumberjack cake, but I’ve seen these cakes floating around for years. They make an exceptionally adorable “Where the Wild Things Are” cake.

Peaches in Elderflower: A Titanic Inspired Dessert

As you are slowly finding out, I am obsessed with sunken ships. Every year, I plop down in front of the TV, pop in my VHS of the 1997 film, and snack on Titanic-shaped cookies. This year, I decided to do something new. I wanted to make a different dessert, maybe even one that was served on that fateful voyage. After several Google searches, do you know what I learned?

Titanic Sugar Cookies

What none of you Internet friends of mine know that my real world friends know too well is that I am obsessed with sunken ships. Especially Titanic. I’ve seen every film adaptation of its sinking (even the dreaded “Titanic II”), and don’t even get me started on how many times I’ve seen the James Cameron adaptation!

I remember being mesmerized the first time I watched it. The scenes where the ship would degrade and then restore, from its wreckage to pristine condition–they took my breath away.
